Juniors Program
The Junior Program, the Rowing Club of The Woodlands' single largest program, focuses on enhancing the rowing skills of high school students and allowing them the opportunity to compete in local and regional regattas. Practices are held from Monday through Thursday at 5:30P.M. to 7:30P.M. and include warm-up drills, steady-state rows, race pace sprints, endurance pieces, scrimmage races and cool down exercises. All juniors are expected to compete at all regattas the Juniors Program plans on intending.
Juniors Program is open to 9th through 12th grade students only from all high schools within the Conroe Independent School District, the John Cooper School and home school programs. Students attending a school within CISD can receive physical education credits.
Due to equipment limitations, the program is currently limited to thirty-five (35) participants per season. Beginning junior rowers must complete the Learn To Row Program before joining the Rowing Club of The Woodlands' Juniors Program.
History of the Program
In August 1996, club members and parents of students interested in the sport of rowing initiated the Juniors program. Since its inception, juniors have received gold medals at state competition in the women's double, men's double and finalists in varsity events from 1999 through 2005. Junior program graduates have joined collegiate rowing teams including Harvard, Yale, Boston University, University of San Diego and the U.S. Naval Academy.
